Our Story
During the Spring of 2019, Golf Landscape Oil Painter and full-time Orinda CC Golf Course Superintendent Josh Smith saw an opportunity.
Looking around his office and recalling other great clubs he has worked at, he saw there was typically no end game for past season-used flags. In his new role as Head Superintendent after coming over as an assistant from Cal Club, it was now his choice what to do with the plethora of "flown" pin flags cluttering his office.
Instead of letting them end up in a landfill and be gone forever, breaking down for the next 40 years, he envisioned a way to repurpose these cherished symbols of the game into something unique and practical – golf bags.
Josh reached out to his long-time friend, who knew something about making a great golf bag and eureka! The result was a stylish, lightweight golf bag filled with personality, primarily crafted from repurposed golf flags.
To turn this concept into a reality, Josh got assistance from his brother Matt, a respected businessman and fellow golf enthusiast. In early 2020, FlagBag Golf Co. was formed, dedicated to creating one-of-a-kind golf accessories from golf flags. Their flagship product, the FlagBag, quickly gained popularity among golfers worldwide.
Just a few short years later, the brand is making waves (see Jack Nicklaus at The 2024 Masters) and has expanded the product line as the ideas kept flowing. The company, built on upcycling, is not stopping there. With partners Joe Cloyes and Buster Posey, the team has designs on making FlagBag a household name, making items that tell a story, and creating lasting relationships across the globe.
FlagBag Golf Co. proudly offers the FlagBag and a growing range of innovative, stylish bespoke golf accessories, including duffel bags, headcovers, valuables pouches, and more. You can still find Josh as a full-time superintendent, husband, father, and landscape oil painter. For FlagBag, the best is yet to come, with many exciting new products, designs, partnerships, and big news on the horizon.
